The Samurai & the Zen Monk.
A group of of Warriors were traveling a narrow mountain pass, when they came upon a Monk who was in their path. The Chief Warrior got off his horse, knowing these monks are renowned for their wisdom, he asked ‘Old Monk, tell us what is the meaning of Heaven & Hell? The Monk replied ‘ why would I tell a stupid idiot like you anything?’ The Chief Warrior became incensed and drew his sword, raised it above his head to strike this petulent priest. The Monk raised his finger; “now that is Hell!” The Chief Warrior paused and stared… having learned a valuable lesson bowed his head and replaced his sword. The Monk again raised his finger; ‘now that is Heaven’.
Sons of a Drunk.
A psychologist asked his patient, what is the cause of your pain, why have you often failed in life, love and friendships. The patient said’ well you see doctor, my father was a drunk and he used to abuse us and bash my brother and I, and put us down all the time and that is why I failed in life. After the session, the doctor rang the patients’ brother. He found him and discovered he was a successful lawyer, rich with 4 children and in a successful marriage of many years. The doctor asked why is it you are an outstanding success in life, love and friends. ” Well you see doctor, my father was a drunk and he used to abuse us and bash my brother and I, and put us down all the time and that is why I am a success in life; I was determined to be nothing like my father.
It’s not what happens to us in life, it what we do about it that matters.
