As a frequent guest of Taj Mahal Hotels around the world; I know the high level of professional service and standard the staff vigilantly maintain to give their prestigious hotels their outstanding level of service.
This story based on true events in 2008 when a terrorist group sprayed bullets on the streets and within the iconic hotel; the death count is high (estimated 160+ Dead)- the Indian Special Forces were based in Delhi some hours away to respond and eliminate the threat.
My Criticisms:
The terrorists were painted as young automaton operatives for a Master mind known as the Bull (who was never later found) he ordered these young men what to do and who to execute (i.e. Infidels).
The film hints they were only doing this indiscriminate massacres so-their poor poverty stricken families would receive money from this mastermind – who, of course, never did.
I Call BS.
These murderers knew exactly what they were doing and died the cowardly scum they were.
As I write this, last week another cowardly lowlife, from Grafton Australia) walked into a Christchurch, New Zealand; Mosques and did the same cowardice (but with people in worship) with a modified semi automatic weapons (that spray bursts of bullets) – he was arrested when again, extreme prejudice should have been used- a court should not be used as a forum for an unhinged idiot’s deranged diatribe (like in Norway).
Also, there seems, in one scene, to be an apology by a turban wearing Hotel Staffer to an old western woman who can’t tell the difference between a Muslim and a Sikh- that really was her problem/ignorance and should not have been indulged, nor explained/justified or apologised for.
I hasten to add, as a lawyer, our government forces are not hit assassination squads when time has passed between the wrong and the terror activity- if later, after a carnage- like Munich Olympics massacre revenge and Bin Laden’s hit etc an arrest can be made that should be a top priority- in that way, we can learn of other’s involvement – but in Real-Time atrocities, like those depicted in Hotel Mumbai, head-shots are the only solution to a group of murderer -suicide losers..
Full credit to the Mumbai police – who with limited resources, stood up as genuine heroes and did the best they could (with mainly pistols) and bought much needed time before Special Forces arrived to finish the threat off.
In the heat of war, especially in this nature, there are likely no arrests and there is a much better way to deal with these in-real time killing sprees-. I understand, an option to consider, in Russia with their Spetnaz Special Forces, that whenever groups of terrorists engage in terror activities and kill innocent people and family members in the name of an extreme religious and political cause- the Russian authorities simply identify the murderers- go to their houses and communities and hold hostage and kill the terrorist’s families, friends, imams/priests. So, for every innocent person they kill for their cause they lose one -in kind- it apparently has a high effectiveness rate – this seems a far better way to deal with these cowards especially when often they have no intention of surrender.-perhaps even turning on themselves. They can die with the shame they have brought on their own people and loved-ones and have a preventative effect in the future where dialogue and political awareness and pressure etc is the best way to go to raise broader awareness; than this visceral reactionary opportunism that leads to on-going inter-generational bloodshed..
